Getting Your Green Fix in Winter

A friend, who is green building advocate in Virginia, recently posted this photo courtesy of the Arlington Initiative to Reduce Emissions, and it started me thinking... why not?! These things do nothing but take up valuable real estate in my all too small bathroom trash cans. And, this time of year - in a climate that vacillates back and forth like a pendullum in a Edgar Allen Poe story - many of us are looking for a means of exercising our green thumbs without throwing money down the toilet due to premature planting and a late season frost. So resist the temptation to rush working in the yard on these rare, but seemingly more common, warm winter days. Instead, collect your toilet paper rolls, get some high quality potting soil, buy seed packs of your favorite annuals, herbs, or vegetables and have fun!
